Fitness Friday: Drink UP!

It is #FitnessFriday, y’all!! Let’s talk about an easy and healthy habit: Drinking water.

Seems so darn simple, right? According to Boston College, about two-thirds of Americans do not drink enough water. Read  The Chicago Tribune states: Forty-three percent of adults drink less than four cups of water a day. That includes 36 percent who drink one to three cups, and 7 percent who drink none. Either way you look at this, people aren’t drinking enough.

When you wake up, you need to ditch the coffee routine because the first thing you should do {ok, maybe second after going to the bathroom 😉 } is drink water. My suggestion, along with a million other experts’ suggestion, is to drink lemon water- or lemon tea {if using hot water}.

¼ Lemon and 1+ cup(s) (hot) water

The benefits seem endless. Here are just a few.

  1. Rehydrate the body – it has been 6+ hours since your last cup of water!!! Your body needs it!
  2. Kick start your metabolism – um weight loss help!! J
  3. Excellent source of Vitamin C and Potassium! Au Revoir pesky colds!
  4. It’s a diuretic so you will be peeing a lot, BUT it will flush the icky stuff out. AND it….
  5. Aids in digestion! Yay for regularity!
  6. Helps skin fight blemishes and look gorge! {can’t say no to that one!!}
  7. Energy boost – see, ditch the caffeine and go on a hike! 😉

Now don’t get me wrong, go get your cup o’ joe, but wait until AFTER you lemon water and breakfast, please. I don’t always get in my lemon water, and those mornings I can definitely feel it. Just try it for one week and report back to BKMD! Let us know if you noticed a difference…I bet you will! J

Anyways, you need to drink 6-8 cups (8 oz) of water a day but it isn’t necessarily enough. I suggest half you weight in ounces. {If you weigh 140lbs, than 70 ounces is how much you should have, more if you are an active person.}

Tips and Tricks: How can you get in more water?

  • Water bottle timeline

  • Add fruits and make it flavorful! {Strawberries, lemon, cucumber, mint, blueberries…..}

  • Start a water club at work! {I actually facilitated a water drinking competition a few years ago!}

  • Set up notes around your office, cube, in your car, on your vanity, in your phone.

ORRRR Make up your habit and timeline— here’s mine: 1L (32oz) by 11am. I have 8-16oz before breakfast and the rest before lunch. 1L by 2pm. I drink 16oz with lunch and 16oz with my afternoon snack. 1L by 4:30pm. I drink the last liter before I pull into my driveway {most of the time…sometimes I have to finish the last 16oz before dinner}. I don’t count anything after I get my 3 liters in because then I worry I will up all night! Lol

I know this isn’t a health or lifestyle blog, but I think its important for brides to be healthy – Especially on the big day! Your skin will glow, your stomach won’t be bloated, and your energy levels will be at an all-time high! If you feel great on the inside, you will look even better on the outside! Happy Hydration!
