Fit For My Wedding



Hey y’all! How many of you are trying to lose weight and tone up for your wedding? I think all women do, despite our size and weight. We want to look and feel our best on this special day!

I had a goal to lose 12lbs before the wedding. I had just over a year to do it so it could be done gradually. I started off with a 5lb goal. I thought I would just aim for a healthier lifestyle and anything more was just icing on the cake! Or in my case, peanut butter on celery sticks! 😉



I got to my goal within a month or so and was stoked! I decided to add another 5lbs to that goal. Anyways, I was 147lbs and made it to 134lbs by the time my wedding rolled around. I exceeded my goal and felt absolutely amazing!

Want to know what I did?

Ever heard of clean eating? Yes, you have. You just don’t want to put in the extra time and hard work to do it. Believe me, I did NOT think I could do it.

I started small. For breakfast I would have one egg and 1 Ezekiel English muffin for breakfast. Sometimes I made those egg muffins {Pinterest, ladies!!} and added mushrooms, onions, peppers, a SPRINKLE of cheese.

One of the bloggers I follow said to replace ONE meal a day with salad. You bet your lil hiney I did! Yes, I got sick of it quickly, but as the LBs shed, I became MORE motivated. I added almonds, made homemade vinaigrettes, or even fruit to help switch it up. I Google’d recipes (LOW FAT – dressings and candied anything add so many icky things into your body!) and tried to stay focused. When I couldn’t take the salads anymore, I made a veggie soup {recipe at the end of this post}.

Dinner, I would eat whatever BUT I practiced portion control. Heck, I even had dessert! Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches, 2-4 frozen Ghirardelli dark chocolate with raspberry squares, or just a couple pieces of chocolate.

Eventually my little routine became a habit and it was MUCH easier to get ‘cleaner’ with my food intake. I also discovered juicing! I love LOVE love to have homemade juice, especially with kale and spinach. OMG. Right before my bachelorette I did a 3 day cleanse, and it was hard but amazing! You can—let me repeat—YOU CAN eat while on a cleanse. Just CLEAN foods only, and let me just say I ate. 1-2 hardboiled eggs in the morning, carrots at ‘lunch’ and sometimes an apple. Dinner I had 4oz of chicken and a salad. Yes, this is hard, but it helped me feel good about myself. I was strong and dedicated. I didn’t do as well as others I know, but I still managed.

Anyways, back to the beginning. I started to walk to the lake and back (1.2 miles). Then I pushed myself INTO the lake…jk…I would walk to the ½ mile marker at the lake’s path. Eventually I was trying to run. It was so flippin’ hard. {If you are a runner, I am amazed at your body’s strength!!} My now husband and then fiancé was running right behind me to push me. The bum hole {jk, honey!} can always run and run. I don’t know how he does it, but it pushed me. Haha. Jon travels a lot and I started getting afraid to run alone. I started to work out on our treadmill in the evenings. I also would look up YouTube videos that some of the bloggers I follow would recommend.

It eventually got to the point where I was waking up at 4:30am-5am, drinking lemon tea {1/4 lemon squeezed and dropped into HOT water} and would watch TV for 10 minutes. I hopped on the treadmill and ran until I couldn’t anymore then walked. Then ran. Then walked. I was still at work by 7/7:30am. Working out in the morning allowed me to relax, clean, do laundry, etc when I got home.

I wanted to share my little story because if I could do this, then you can too! I did fall out of my habit in 2014 L BUT I am back on it this year. Jon and I have challenged each other to a 2 week 5lb challenge this month. You and your partner {bff, fiancé, mom, dad, sister….} can do this to motivate each other! Now, let’s tie up our Nike’s and put on our sports bra and start moving!




Bridal Shower – Just hit my goal!!


Veggie Soup Recipe – 1 Week’s Worth

1 large carton of chicken broth LOW sodium

1 large red onion {I prefer red, but you can use white, Vidalia, etc.}

1 tbsp. garlic

1 bell pepper

1 large can of crushed, diced, OR plum tomatoes

3 small potatoes, cleaned {I don’t peel mine, but you can!}

1 large sweet potato

1 tbsp. pepper

1 tsp. red pepper flakes

Sprinkling of dried herbs {oregano, basil, parley, rosemary, etc}

5 carrots or 15 baby carrots

1 head of broccoli

1/2 head of cauliflower

1/2 carton of mushrooms

1/2-1 bunch of kale

2 cups spinach

Sauté onion with garlic and bell pepper {with a teensy bit of EVOO} While sautéing, clean and chop potatoes and sweet potato. Add chicken broth and canned tomatoes to the onion, pepper, and garlic. Add potatoes. Add red pepper, red pepper flakes, and herbs. While potatoes cook, clean all the other vegetables and chop (can add any other veggies you have on hand!). Add everything {NOT spinach and kale} to the soup. Add Kale and Spinach last and slowly so it can wilt.

DO NOT ADD SALT–you will bloat and you DO NOT NEED IT! Use the spiciness to help curve your need for salt. I add a TON of freshly ground pepper. The hotter it is, the less salt I want.
